Novel Project
This is the generic version of a novel project I do with my students. The Frankenstein To Kill A Mockingbird Projects that I have posted are the same, but everything is particular to those novels. This one I made very generic so that it can go with almost any novel. My students like being given a choice as to what they do.

Four Days In Verona
This helps students sequence the action in Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet. Theres so much action, often we forget that it all takes place in only 4 short days! This one has the first day already started, but you could take that out to make it harder/more independent. I have used this with upper elementary English learners through native English...

Modified Test on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave
This is a modified version of my other test on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. Some of the essay question are in Spanish. I wanted to know whether my students gained the content knowldege of the complex issue of slavery. This was given in a high school Sheltered English 11 class (American Literature.)

Frankenstein Project Grading Rubri
This is how I graded the Frankenstein project. This project was done as we finished reading an adapted version of the Mary Shelly novel. I used it with novice English proficient students in 9-12 grade. It works well for many proficiency levels.

Reading Response Log
My students use this worksheet to write about their independent reading. I found that if I just let them write on their own, they would just recite the book over again. This helps them focus on their connections and analysis of the story, not just retelling plot (though they have to do that too!) I think it is adaptable to many levels.

Romeo and Juliet Test
This is a test after a long unit on Romeo and Juliet. We read an adapted version, but this would be suitable for the original version as well. We also studied compare/contrast essays during this unit. The test uses many different types of questions: multiple choice, true/false, open ended, ID. It is long, but I think it is fair considering how ...
