Romeo and Juliet Test
This is a test after a long unit on Romeo and Juliet. We read an adapted version, but this would be suitable for the original version as well. We also studied compare/contrast essays during this unit. The test uses many different types of questions: multiple choice, true/false, open ended, ID. It is long, but I think it is fair considering how ...

Current Event Report
My students have to do a current event report every week. They choose a news article and write a summary and their personal response to it. This particular class is World Literature, so they have to report on news from other countries, but this is easily modified for whatever type of news you want them to read.

I used this test when teaching about all of the winter holidays with my novice/elementary English learners. I used it with novice high schoolers, but I think it is appropriate for anyone learning about Islam and Ramadan. It is very simple, but covers the basics.

Reading Strategy Activity
This is a generic reading strategy plan that can go along with any type of reading-especially helpful for newspapers, or magazine articles. I actually made this up to use with my faculty to model reading strategies as we read academic journal articles!

Campaign Project
My students do this project towards the end of our study on persuasive speech/writing. I generally do this unit in the fall (election time in the U.S.) so that there are plenty of examples of good and bad persuasive arguments as the politicians are doing their thing! The rules are that they have to choose their words carefully-they can insult the...
