An urban legend: the tale of the missing bride.
A reading comp. I have omitted 12 verbs, just to make them think, but not spoil the flow of the reading. Then they complete the exercises. When they know the story reasonably well, they could do a role play/hotseat activity. I have included two hotseat cards, plus the key to the missing words, in the order they appear.

The Lambton Worm, a famous legend.
I started to write a ws about my home city, Durham, but this took over! As children, we were threatened that the Lambton worm would come back and get us if we were naughty. Two sheets with a reading comp with lots of irregular past simple, 40 questions, true or false, match up and glossary.

Skating on the Village Pond
Two pages of exercises on this lovely picture by Melanie Hope Greenberg and thanks to her for permission to use it. The main focus on page 2 is past simple but it could easily be adapted to present continuous. Then, they can do what they really want - colour it in!

How do Christians celebrate Christmas?
First, before the ws, get them to brainstorm: how do Christians celebrate Christmas? There are lots: they go shopping, they visit friends and relatives... Then give the sheet. They match up the sentence and picture, then put the correct verb in the gap. After, they see which ones they got, which they didn´t and maybe they got some extra things, not...
