An urban legend: the tale of the missing bride.
A reading comp. I have omitted 12 verbs, just to make them think, but not spoil the flow of the reading. Then they complete the exercises. When they know the story reasonably well, they could do a role play/hotseat activity. I have included two hotseat cards, plus the key to the missing words, in the order they appear.

The Lambton Worm, a famous legend.
I started to write a ws about my home city, Durham, but this took over! As children, we were threatened that the Lambton worm would come back and get us if we were naughty. Two sheets with a reading comp with lots of irregular past simple, 40 questions, true or false, match up and glossary.

Two pages of exercises on this lovely picture by Melanie Hope Greenberg and thanks to her for permission to use it. The main focus on page 2 is past simple but it could easily be adapted to present continuous. Then, they can do what they really want - colour it in!
