Follow the instructions to draw a picture
Either, they do this as a reading exercise, or as a listening activity in pairs. One student reads the instructions - the one who whinges about drawing;-)- and the other completes the picture. Gap fill on page 2, with key.

Christmas Day

What did Anne Boleyn, unfortunate wife of Henry the 8th, look like?
I have just returned from a visit to Hever castle, birthplace of darling Anne Boleyn. She was so badly done to, poor soul, by that foul monster Henry the 8th. All portraits of her were destroyed after her fall from grace. I think these two images - a miniature and a sketch, are her!

How did you do this year?
It�s the end of the academic year in some parts and a chance for the students to have a bit of self reflection time. The language used is the language of assessment and although I have prepared this for native speakers, I hope it might be useful for some of you.

Mona Lisa vs Medusa
Making comparisons/ drawing analogies is a great way to teach EAL. This made a great lesson and so I continued with more comparisons: Harry Potter vs Gandalf, Batman vs Jack Sparrow etc. Great fun, great for language development.
