This is a simplified version of an article that was in the Daily Mail yesterday. There are some exercises on page 2. This will suit good intermediate to advanced students.

The Lambton Worm, a famous legend.
I started to write a ws about my home city, Durham, but this took over! As children, we were threatened that the Lambton worm would come back and get us if we were naughty. Two sheets with a reading comp with lots of irregular past simple, 40 questions, true or false, match up and glossary.

Bertie the dog rescues Fluffy the kitten
A short heart-warming story based on an interactive card by the fabulous Jacqui Lawson (link included). After reading the passage, the students match up the sentence parts, then they replace the verbs. The key to the match-up is at the bottom of page 2.
